Last week I posted the question, "Why do we kill the things we fear and fear the things we kill, while the only thing to fear is fear itself. You might be wondering why I decided to base my blog on deep thinking questions. Well I think it's interesting to see what other people think and compare it to my own thoughts. It may be the same or very different. Every week there will be a new question with my thoughts and the thoughts of my friends posted below it. If you would like to contribute your thoughts about the question or quote please post it in a comment!
Alright, This weeks deep thinking quote is, "Trying to change ourselves in order to please others-so that we can feel temporarily whole for having won their approval-is like cutting a flower into pieces so that it will fit into a vase." _Guy Finley.
What do you think this means?
I believe that this quote means that you shouldn't try to be something you're not just to fit in with the people around you. You should be yourself no matter how weird you are. You should stand out in a crowd instead of blending in. Basically don't be afraid of what others will or do think about you!
My friend Athena- People admire flowers for their beauty and shape and uniqueness. What the quote is trying to say is that we should admire people for the same qualities, and that we shouldn't try to contort ourselves into something we are not because it destroys the beauty of who each and every one of us are.
My friend Nikki- Yeah I totaly agree. Changing ourselves for someone else is just stupid. We are who we are for a reason and embracing it is the best.
My cousin Ricky- Changing ourselves so we can feel whole is something a lot of people do, but most people do it because they ar self conscious. But if you're like me, you make people accept you the way you are or you just don't hang out with them.
My friend Kayla-I think it means that you have to take away things about you so that you can fit in or fit the part.
My friend Molly- Sounds good. (:
My friend Katie-Okay, so this quote to me means that we shouldn't change ourselves just to make someone happy. If someone doesn't like you for you, then they can just get over it and move on. I believe to make yourself happy, you have to be yourself.
